Business travellers boost easyJet annual profits
Nov 15, 2011, 8:38 GMT
London - British budget carrier easyJet Tuesday reported a sharp rise in pre-tax annual profits to 248 million pounds (394 million dollars) as passenger numbers increased by nearly 12 per cent, figures released by the airline showed.
The figures up to the end of September compare with a pre-tax profit of 154 million pounds in 2010, representing a rise of 31.5 per cent.
EasyJet said the improved result, which was in line with expectations, was due largely to more people using the airline for business travel.
But the airline also warned of difficulties ahead, caused mainly by high fuel costs.
EasyJet chief executive Carolyn McCall said the results were achieved 'despite the headwinds of higher fuel costs and a weak and uncertain economic outlook.'
