Moscow - Executives from German technology giant Siemens on Thursday signed a 370-million-dollar deal to manufacture gas turbines with a Russian firm, the Interfax news agency reported.
The agreement creates a joint venture, with Siemens obtaining a 65-per-cent share, and Russian's Silovie Mashiny, a generator and power plant producer, getting a 35-per-cent stake.
Manufacturing will take place in Russia. Gas turbines ranging in capacity from 169 to 292 megawatts will be the joint venture's first products, the report said.
Siemens is a major employer in Russia and had sales of some 1.6 billion dollars in the country in fiscal year 2010.
Assisting Russia's national railroad modernize its equipment and replacing hundreds of its Soviet-era locomotives are top projects for the German firm, a corporate statement said.
