Japanese stocks rise in morning trading

Tokyo - Japanese stocks rose in Monday morning trading on positive economic news from the United States.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average gained 94.50 points, or 1.13 per cent, to 8,489.66 by the midday break at 11:30 am (0230 GMT).
The broader Topix index rose 3.47 points, or 0.48 per cent, to trade at 726.59.
Japan's financial markets were closed Friday for a public holiday.
US figures published on Friday showed that sales of new houses hit their highest level for seven months, boosting optimism about the outlook for the world's largest economy. The US is a key market for Japanese exporters.
On currency markets at 11:30 am, the euro was quoted at 101.80-85 yen, down from 102.04-08 late Thursday, and at 1.3056-60 dollars, down from 1.3064-65 dollars.
The dollar traded at 77.97-78.00 yen, down from 78.11-12 yen late Thursday.
