Geithner says Obama won't ask him to serve again
Jan 25, 2012, 22:48 GMT
Washington - US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said Wednesday that he does not plan to stay in office if President Barack Obama is elected to a second term.
In an interview with Bloomberg Television, Geithner said he was 'confident' Obama would not ask him to serve again.
'I'm confident he'll be president. But I'm also confident he's going to have the privilege of having another secretary of the Treasury,' said Geithner, 50.
It had been speculated over the summer that Geithner would resign for personal reasons, but he instead decided to stay on through negotiations over a debt ceiling increase and a subsequent downgrade of the US credit rating by agency Standard & Poor's.
