Davos activists name Barclays bank, miner Vale as worst companies
Jan 27, 2012, 15:41 GMT
Davos, Switzerland - British bank Barclays and Brazilian mining company Vale earned the annual Public Eye awards for the worst corporate misconduct from activists on Friday, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in the Swiss resort of Davos.
A jury that included Greenpeace representatives selected Barclays, charging that the bank is 'probably the world's fastest-growing speculator on food products, driving up prices on the backs of the world's poorest.'
Online voters chose Vale for its alleged poor record on environmental and human rights issues.
TEPCO, the operator of the leaking Fukushima reactor in Japan, came in second in the internet poll.
