US stocks rise as Greek talks begin

Washington - US stocks continued to rise Wednesday as Greek talks among political leaders began after days of postponements.
In the talks, Greece's governing coalition mulled a spate of harsh new cost-cutting measures that the country will have to adopt to receive further international loans to avoid a looming bankruptcy.
The blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 5.75 points, or 0.04 per cent, to 12,883.95. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 Index climbed 2.91 points, or 0.22 per cent, to 1,349.96. The technology-heavy Nasdaq rose 11.78 points, or 0.41 per cent, to 2,915.86.
The US currency edged up against the euro to 75.44 euro cents from 75.41 euro cents on Tuesday. The dollar was up against the Japanese currency at 77.05 yen from 76.78 yen.
