Greek parliament prepares to vote on bailout
Feb 12, 2012, 10:53 GMT
Athens - Greece's parliament is to decide Sunday on whether to approve the new round of austerity measures that will allow the country facing bankruptcy to qualify for a second international bailout.
The 300-member parliament is expected to vote at 2200 GMT. Opponents of the latest austerity measures are expected to join a demonstration outside parliament at 1500 GMT.
Greece will default on its debt on March 20 if it fails to secure the 130-billion-euro (171-billion-dollar) bailout from the European Union, European Central Bank and International Monetary fund.
The austerity measures include a 22-per cent cut in the minimum wage, public sector layoffs and pension cuts.
Thousands have taken to the streets across the country to protest the measures since Friday.
