German politician urges bailout by installments for Greece
Feb 15, 2012, 16:53 GMT
Berlin - A leading supporter of Chancellor Angela Merkel urged Wednesday that Greece's upcoming aid package be paid by installments, depending on Athens' progress in reducing its deficit.
Free Democratic Party parliamentary leader Rainer Bruederle, who heads one quarter of the legislators in Merkel's coalition, said on Bavarian public radio, 'One must consider giving the funds as progress payments after each reforming step.'
The pro-business politician said Germany did the same with aid to developing countries. Bruederle, who is not a member of Merkel's Christian-Democrat-led cabinet, added: 'I'm afraid we've not had totally positive experiences with Greece.' Author: Andre Stahl
