US Treasury Secretary Geithner praises World Bank chief
Feb 15, 2012, 21:51 GMT
Washington - US Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner praised outgoing World Bank President Bob Zoellick on Wednesday as 'a remarkably effective leader of the World Bank at a critically important time in the world economy.'
Zoellick, who announced Wednesday that he would leave the international development lender when his five-year term expires on June 30, led the World Bank during the 2008-09 global financial crisis.
Geithner said that the agency 'under his leadership ... has made vital contributions to the global response to the financial crisis, improving food security and strengthening post-conflict and transition countries.'
He said that Zoellick's tenure has seen the agency become 'a more effective, accountable, and transparent institution.'
