Vietnam resumes sending workers to Libya

Feb 17, 2012, 4:52 GMT

Hanoi - Vietnam has started sending workers to Libya again, as security has improved nearly a year after repatriating all its citizens from the country due to the fighting, state media said Friday.

After receiving permission from the Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, the first group of eight workers will embark on Wednesday on contracts of between two and three years which can be extended, Viet Nam News reported on the first anniversary of the start of the Libyan uprising.

Until February 17, 2011, Vietnam had about 10,000 workers in the country, most in construction and earning on average 600-800 dollars per month. All were repatriated by the end of March.

The political situation in Libya was now deemed stable and demand for workers was increasing, the report quoted Deputy Employment Minister Le Thanh Hoa as saying.
