Wall Street boosted by flat jobless figures

Washington - US stocks rose Thursday as new weekly jobless claims remained unchanged, pointing to strengthening on the US labour market.
The weekly figure stood at 351,000 new applications for unemployment benefits last week, the lowest level in nearly four years.
Technology giant IBM and retailer Sears also helped to push up the market as a whole.
The blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average added 46.02 points, or 0.36 per cent, to 12,984.69. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 Index gained 5.8 points, or 0.43 per cent, to 1,363.46. The technology-heavy Nasdaq rose 23.81 points, or 0.81 per cent, to 2,956.98.
The US currency was down against the euro at 74.8 euro cents from 75.5 euro cents on Wednesday. The dollar fell against the Japanese currency to 79.94 yen from 80.28.
