Tel Aviv - Possibly the most famous eye-patch in the Middle East, that of late Israeli military general and politician Moshe Dayan, is up for sale on the eBay internet auction site, the Israeli Ha'aretz daily reported Monday.

The asking price is 75,000 U.S. dollars and the eye patch is being offered by Pasarel Israeli Art and Treasures, of the Israeli coastal resort of Natanya.

Moti Sander, a partner at Pasarel, said he had received the eye patch from Dayan's personal bodyguard, who said that he had gotten it, together with a Smith & Wesson 38 revolver, minutes after the former army chief of staff, defence minister and foreign minister died in 1981.

The revolver is not being offered through eBay, which bans the sale of arms.

Dayan, appointed defence minister just days before the 1967 Middle East War, and for many the symbol of Israel's victory, lost his left eye in 1941 while fighting with the Australian 7th Infantry Division against Vichy France forces in Syria.
