Sep 21, 2006, 17:26 GMT
Oberhausen, Germany - One of the world's most modern co- generation gas-fired power plants is be built in Malmo, Sweden, Hitachi Power Europe (HPE) said Thursday.
E.ON Sverige placed the order for the 220 million euros (279 million dollars) plant with a consortium led by HPE, a subsidiary of Hitachi (Japan).
The plant has an electrical capacity of 440 megawatts (MW) and additional 250 MW heat extraction. Under combined operations, 89 per cent of the gas energy will be utilized - 'an absolute peak figure in the world', according to HPE.
The new plant will lead to old coal-fired plants in Scandinavia being taken off the grid, resulting in a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by around one million tons a year, HPE said.
