Russia's Gazprom to explore Stockmann field alone
Oct 9, 2006, 14:59 GMT
Moscow - Russia will develop the giant Stockmann gas field in the Barents Sea without foreign involvement, the head of the semi-state gas company Gazprom, Alexei Miller, said in Moscow Monday.
Foreign companies would still be allowed to take part in tenders for construction of related infrastructure, Miller told the Russia Today television channel.
Foreign companies vying for stake in the project had included Norway's Hydro and Statoil as well as US companies ConocoPhillips and Chevron.
The field off northwest Russia holds an estimated 3.7 billion cubic metres of natural gas and will supply the North Europe and Gas Pipeline now under construction to supply consumers in Western Europe.
