OPEC president confirms that Angola is to be new member

Abuja - Angola is to become the 12th member of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), OPEC president Edmund Dakoru announced Thursday at an OPEC meeting in Abuja, Nigeria.
Angola currently produces 1.4 million barrels per day (159 litres per barrel) and is aiming to increase its production to 2 million barrels by the end of 2007.
The necessary three-quarters of the 11 countries which are currently OPEC members voted for Angola's membership.
