Bonn/Freiberg - SolarWorld AG, one of the world's top three solar energy groups, said Thursday it plans to double production capacity at one of its key German operations.
The company's announcement that it was expanding production of solar silicon wafers at its Freiberg factory is a further sign of Germany's burgeoning renewable energy sector.
The expansion from the current 250 Megawatt (MW) level to 500 MW is to take place within the next 28 months.
SolarWorld said 50 per cent of the increased volume had already been sold until 2018 by way of long-term supply contracts with the international solar cell industry.© 2006 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
