Solar power group plans to double capacity
Dec 21, 2006, 18:31 GMT
Bonn/Freiberg - SolarWorld AG, one of the world's top three solar energy groups, said Thursday it plans to double production capacity at one of its key German operations.
The company's announcement that it was expanding production of solar silicon wafers at its Freiberg factory is a further sign of Germany's burgeoning renewable energy sector.
The expansion from the current 250 Megawatt (MW) level to 500 MW is to take place within the next 28 months.
SolarWorld said 50 per cent of the increased volume had already been sold until 2018 by way of long-term supply contracts with the international solar cell industry.

we should congratulate solar world for making this wise decision to go in for such a great increase in capacity- if i were bill gates and/or warren buffett, i would have set aside about 10 billion dollars immediately to expand solar and wind power all over the world. This is where the world ought to be heading if it wishes to avert a looming world disaster due to global warming caused by carbon emissions. When will Bush and the oil behemoths come together and plan a massive investment in the solar/wind energy sector. We need to do this on a war-footing- regards- hiro bachani- mg. director- http://www.merlin-me.com email- hirorajni@gmail.com - i would like to set up major townships in india and dubai and elsewhere using solar and wind energy as much as is possible- investments will be in the billion dollar range-
