As I see, everyone now wants to be the first one, who has dismantled the Soviet Bloc. Unfortunately this, what I read here, is a pure rubbish. Hungary was one of the most loyal allies of USSR and the fall of Iron Curtain has begun in early spring 1989 in Poland with the start of Round Table talks. Sorry, these are the facts.

Slavomir,

This article doesn't say that Hungary started the process, it says it played a 'key role'. Are you claiming that Hungary didn't cut through the Iron Curtain? Are you saying that East Germans didn't cross over? Even before the curtain was cut, many East Germans were coming down to Hungary to stay at Lake Balaton, where they met their families from the West and were taken across, leaving empty tents dotting the shore of the lake.

Hungary definitely played a key role, despite being the 'most cheerful barracks'.

Cheers!
