Dutch in prayer marathon against Satan on Day of the Beast - 666
Jun 6, 2006, 6:36 GMT
Amsterdam - Some 2,000 Dutch Christians, most of them Protestants, engaged in a prayer marathon Tuesday to counter the devil on a day marked by the number 666 and seen as propitious for evil.
Satanists would take advantage of the date - June 6, 2006 - to further the ends of the devil, the organizers said.
'We want to demonstrate that God lives and is victorious,' Mathijs Piet of Ambassadors Ministries said.
He made particular reference to the 1976 film The Omen, a remake of which is being launched Tuesday.
The number 666 is said to be the Number of the Beast in the Book of Revelations.
Dutch Christians gathered at some 50 sites across the country to pray for 24 hours from 6 p.m. on Monday to 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
Christians were reported to be praying in around a score of other countries.
