Dec 17, 2006, 15:42 GMT
Istanbul - Police in the Turkish resort of Alanya arrested 254 migrants trying to gain passage to Italy through people traffickers to transit to Germany, Anadolu news agency reported Sunday.
The migrants including 188 men, 34 women and 32 children had spent three days waiting in a four-star hotel.
Most of the would-be immigrants originated in the Middle East and Africa and almost 50 were Turkish nationals. They had paid 4,500 euros (5,890 dollars) each for the journey.
Police have arrested around a dozen suspects including the hotel manager for their alleged involvement in the trafficking.
