Mass crash on French motorway - 21 injured
Dec 23, 2006, 14:11 GMT
Paris - Foggy conditions and heavy traffic led to a mass pile-up involving more than 50 vehicles on a French motorway Saturday, the authorities said. Twenty-one people were injured.
In total 200 to 300 cars were affected by three separate collisions on the A63 motorway near Bordeaux, the prefecture of Gironde said.
The motorway, which runs from Bordeaux to Bayonne, was closed following the accidents. Buses took around 100 passengers to a nearby hall while 80 fire service personnel as well as police and humanitarian organizations were at the scene.
Fog had reduced visibility in places to under 20 metres.
