Avalanche kills one as heavy snowfalls hit Turkey

Ankara - One person was killed and another injured on in an avalanche in eastern Turkey on Wednesday as heavy snowfalls severely disrupted life across the country, the Anadolu news agency reported.
The avalanche occured when a traffic crew were attempted to clear a road blocked by snow in the Hakkari region of eastern Turkey.
Earlier Wednesday, five people were killed and 16 injured when a passenger bus crashed into a lorry in the western Turkey province of Duzce. One person in the Black Sea town of Giresun was reported to have frozen to death, Anadolu reported.
The heavy snowfalls cut off some 2,500 villages across the country and traffic on the main highway between the capital Ankara and Turkey's biggest city Istanbul was moving at a snail's pace.
Authorities also ordered the closure of thousandfs of schools across the country.
