Berlin - Afghan President Hamid Karzai arrived in Germany Saturday at the start of a two-day visit during which he is to meet Chancellor Angela Merkel and business leaders.
Karzai arrived in the western German city of Dusseldorf and held talks with Juergen Ruettgers, prime minister of the state of North Rhine Westphalia.
The Afghan president was later to receive a 'Steiger Award' in the Bochum. The citation for the award states that Karzai is viewed as a uniting force for all Afghans.
'He has long been an advocate for improving human rights and the role of Afghan women in particular. He has appointed several women to his cabinet, and recently appointed the first female governor in Afghanistan's history.'
Following talks with business leaders Sunday, Karzai is to travel to Berlin to meet Merkel.
