Apr 28, 2007, 11:03 GMT
Athens - Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis has sacked Labour Minister Savvas Tsitouridis who is embroiled in a scandal over the use of pension funds to purchase state bonds at inflated prices, state Greek broadcasting reported Saturday.
In the transactions, stockbrokers close to him or to people withing Tsitouridis' circle of friends allegedly received exaggeratedly high commissions.
Greek justice authorities are now investigating the case and have ordered that the banks accounts of close aides to Tsitouridis be opened for examination.
The scandal has rocked public support for the ruling New Democracy (ND) party, Greek media reported Saturday. Up through Friday, Karamanlis had stood by Tsitouridis.
