Swiss police use rubber bullets, water against May Day protestors
May 1, 2007, 18:06 GMT
Zurich - Police in Zurich used water canon and rubber bullets to restore order after a number of demonstrators went on the rampage Tuesday during a May Day march through the Swiss city.
Demonstrators threw stones at police, smashed shop windows, set fire to cars and demolished bus and tram stops in the city's red light district, the Swiss wire service ATS said.
The march had to be cut short and other festivities abandoned when the clashes erupted at around midday.
