Washington - US President George W Bush and Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt met at the White House Tuesday for talks on trade and global warming.
Bush and Reinfeldt discussed a world trade agreement known as the Doha Round, which aims to lift trade restrictions mainly in the United States and European Union to promote growth in poorer regions like Africa.
US and EU trade officials have been unable to come to terms on Doha mostly because of disagreements on agriculture subsidies. Bush and Reinfeldt expressed their commitment to reaching a deal.
'We believe that it's possible, very possible that we'll be successful,' Bush said. 'And so we're moving forward optimistically on this issue.'
Bush said he shared Reinfeldt's concerns about the rise in greenhouse gases and that the two sides discussed proposals to move toward alternative energies.© 2007 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
