Jun 9, 2007, 17:03 GMT
Bucharest - Police used tear gas during a gay rights demonstration in Bucharest Saturday when an anti-gay group attempted to disrupt the march.
The group pelted the gay parade with stones, rubbish, eggs and tomatoes and dozens of those involved in the violence were arrested.
There have been no reports of casualties so far.
At least 300 people were taking part in the march which was part of a cultural event, Gay Fest 2007, in the city. The marchers were under the protection of at least 400 police officers.
The march was organized by the Romanian organization Accept which campaigns for gay rights in Romania.
