Jun 30, 2007, 16:59 GMT
Paris - Hundreds of thousands attended the traditional march of lesbians and gays - the former Gay Pride parade - in Paris on Saturday.
According to the organizers some 700,000 people attended the event, including the mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delanoe, and former culture minister Jack Lang, with transvestites and drag queens providing character and colour to the march.
The demonstrators demanded equal rights for homosexuals.
Lesbians and gays want to start a dialogue with President Nicolas Sarkozy to get political support for their issues.
Meanwhile, a Gay Pride Parade in London attended by thousands took place Saturday despite tensions in the city over the discovery of two car bombs the day before.
Hundreds of extra police were on hand to reassure the public, the BBC reported.
