Jul 19, 2007, 17:09 GMT
Vatican City - The Vatican on Thursday inaugurated a new website dedicated to visitors, complete with webcams and an online souvenir shop.
Available in Italian, English, French, German and Spanish, www.vaticanstate.va also provides historical and practical information on the world's smallest independent state as well as a 'virtual walk' through the Vatican gardens and links to its highly regarded Philatelic and Numismatic Office.
Five webcams show live views of St Peter's Basilica, the tomb of Pope John Paul II and the Governorate Palace.
The Vatican has a range of websites providing information on its museums and media services.
Its official website, www.vatican.va, is designed mainly for insiders and journalists, who use it to consult the press office's daily news bulletins.
