Flooding causes chaos across Switzerland
Aug 9, 2007, 7:19 GMT
Geneva - Heavy rains left roads closed and rail services disrupted across Switzerland Thursday. Up to 80 people were evacuated from three campsites and a number of houses in Roche close to Villeneuve in Vaud on Lake Geneva.
In the Jura many roads were closed. The town of Delemont was cut off by floods after the River Birse burst its banks.
The Swiss railway company SBB/CFF/FFS said the north-east of the country was the worst affected with a number of train services disrupted in the cantons of Berne, Fribourg and St Gallen.
The Swiss weather service MeteoSwiss said record levels of rain had fallen in 24 hours.
