E coli discovered in north Dublin water supply
Aug 15, 2007, 10:38 GMT
Dublin - Tankers of water were being made available to households in an area of north Dublin Wednesday following a warning that the supply was contaminated by E coli bacteria, the national broadcaster RTE reported.
The local authority, Fingal County Council, issued a public alert about the water supply to 160 houses in an estate in Swords, advising residents not to use tap water for brushing teeth, preparing food or bathing children.
The source of the contamination had yet to be identified.
Water supplies contaminated by bacteria have hit several parts of Ireland in recent months, including a serious outbreak in Galway which saw almost 100 people hospitalized and a boil-water notice in place for months.
