Terrorism suspect deported by Pakistan arrested in Germany (Roundup)
Aug 15, 2007, 12:55 GMT
Berlin - A German citizen, held for two months in Pakistan on suspicion of terrorism before being deported to Germany, was arrested on his arrival at Frankfurt airport, prosecutors said Wednesday.
The 29-year-old man from the city of Ulm in the south-western state of Baden-Wuerttemberg was detained in Pakistan on June 10. He was flown back to Germany late Tuesday.
A German Justice Ministry spokeswoman said he appeared to have been deported on grounds related to Pakistani visa requirements and that his arrest in Germany was unrelated.
The state prosecutors office in Munich linked the unnamed man to Islamic fundamentalists in the region around Ulm and said incriminating videos had been found in his possession.
He is alleged to have recruited German citizens to join a holy war - or jihad - against the West.
Pakistani authorities are still holding a 45-year-old German from Germersheim in the western state of Rhineland-Palatinate, as well as a stateless 23-year-old with right of residence in Germany.
The German authorities are in discussions with the Pakistani counterparts over the men's status.
