Putin warns of terrorist threat in Russia (Roundup)
Aug 17, 2007, 16:47 GMT
Moscow - Four days after the bomb attack on the Nevsky Express train travelling between the Russian capital Moscow and St Petersburg, President Vladimir Putin warned of the terror threat in his country, the Interfax news agency reported Friday.
'Recent events have proved once again that we haven't yet done everything to prevent the danger,' Putin was quoted as saying by Interfax.
Russia had to continue its fight against terrorism, he added.
Russian investigators, meanwhile, have arrested three suspects in the attack.
'The three were arrested after a hot tip,' Interfax cited an unnamed source as saying.
Other reports have identified the suspects as two Chechens and one Russian.
The attack on Monday derailed the express train and left 60 people with injuries.
The most recent official statement has said that investigations are concentrating on extremist nationalists, but detectives have not ruled out involvement by Chechen terrorists.
The explosion was caused by a home-made and remote-controlled bomb near Veliky Novgorod, some 500 kilometres north of Moscow.
Chechen underground fighters and allied extremists from the Caucasus region have been the main culprits behind attacks on civilian targets in Russia in the recent past.

It's good to see the Chinese and Russians cooperating militarily, we need more of that kind of thing to counter American world domination. It can only be a good thing for countrys who want to live in peace wth their neighbours. instead of fearing an attack by the nutters in the Whitehouse. Iv'e just declared the USA has a terrorist state. makes a change dosen't it!

I do not live in a terrorist state, I am not a terrorist, and my country does not commit the ever-increasing number of atrocities that blatant terrorists condone.
Who has championed human rights throughout the world? Who has given some of the largest aide packages to nations most in need? Who has stared into the eyes of tyrants and not backed down?
Before you vanquish your enemy, why don’t you study our Constitution, and enlighten yourself to what we really stand for?
No nation is without flaws, and these times are full of struggles, we need more voices of reason, more voices that will mend wavering relations. We need hope…
