Montage of Putin in SS uniform condemned by Russian political party
Sep 4, 2007, 12:41 GMT
Moscow - A photomontage of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the uniform of a Nazi SS officer has caused upset in Russian political circles, reports said Tuesday.
United Russia, a party close to the Kremlin, has called for legal proceedings against the local newspaper in the Volga region that ran the montage.
The picture played on a famous Soviet war film in which a KGB spy infiltrates Nazi Germany's SS force and it accompanied an article discussing whether Putin could stay in office beyond the two terms allowed by the constitution.
United Russia called the image an 'outrageous insult' to the president.
