"Coat hanger amnesty" to be held in Ireland
Sep 12, 2007, 14:52 GMT
Dublin - A major department store chain has said it will hold a 'coat hanger amnesty' for the estimated 50 million unwanted hangers in Irish homes, Ireland's national broadcaster RTE reported.
Each Irish person is estimated to have 67 hangers on average, around 12 of which are not used and thrown away. Some 10 million hangers end up in landfill each year, RTE reported, citing new research.
Marks & Spencer said it would hold an amnesty September 21-22 at its stores in Ireland to take any unwanted plastic coat hangers for recycling.
The store claims to have recycled more than 1 billion hangers in the last 15 years.
