Hunter feared killed by bear
Oct 8, 2007, 14:48 GMT
Stockholm - A moose hunter was Monday feared killed by a bear in northern Sweden, news reports said.
The hunter, who was in his 50s, was found dead near Valsjobyn, 100 kilometres north of Ostersund near the Swedish-Norwegian border.
Police spokesman Frank Nilsson said preliminary investigations suggested the hunter and his dog were killed by a bear, local radio reported.
The hunter had failed to show up at a meeting with fellow moose hunters, who launched a search and found him. The hunter was not armed.
Fatal bear attacks are not common in Sweden, although a 40-year- old hunter was killed by a bear in October 2004, the first such case since 1902.
