Supreme Court rejects el-Masri case against CIA

Oct 9, 2007, 15:22 GMT

Washington - The US Supreme Court Tuesday rejected an appeal by a Lebanese German citizen who accused the CIA of abducting him and sending him to a prison in Afghanistan.

The Supreme Court's decision marks the third time Khaled el- Masri's lawsuit has been rejected in the US judiciary system. The high court cited national security reason for dismissing the case.

El-Masri claims he was tortured by US interrogators during a five- month detention after being kidnapped in Macedonia. The United States says it does not torture suspects in the war on terrorism. He was released in Albania in May 2004.

El-Masri named then CIA director George Tenet in the lawsuit and was seeking 75,000 dollars in damages. He had said the case was about receiving an apology from the US government rather than money.

The Supreme Court determined the case would reveal secrets vital to national security. El-Masri says his identity was mistaken.

This is an outrage! The lower circuit Court declined to hear the case on the grounds that 'it would expose state secrets'. So they've pretty much given the green light for torture to continue, and refuse to even investigate this case of cruel and unusual punishment. What good is the Constitution anymore? Anyone who says we're not a Nazi-style dictatorship is fooling themself. Thanks alot Cons, YOU caused this to happen due to your FEAR (or rather, terror) of a relatively miniscule risk of being attacked by angry Arabs. Screw you!
