German girl survives jump from speeding train
Dec 15, 2007, 13:49 GMT
Nuremberg, Germany - A German schoolgirl suffered only scratches when she jumped from a fast-moving train after learning she had missed her stop, police said Saturday.
The 12-year-old landed in a bush and was able to walk home, following Friday's incident between Nuremberg and Ansbach in the southern state of Bavaria.
A woman passenger told police she saw the girl run to the door of the train and open it after learning the train did not stop in the station where she wanted to get off.
Before fellow-passengers could react, the girl leaped from the train, which was travelling at 120 kilometres per hour. Police said it was a miracle she survived.
When police reached the scene to look for the girl they met her father, who told them she had arrived home in state of confusion with scratches to her face.
The man initially thought someone had attacked his daughter, who was later taken to hospital for observation.
