Black ice leads to hundreds of injuries in Berlin
Jan 6, 2008, 9:46 GMT
Berlin - Hundreds of people suffered minor injuries when black ice turned parts of Berlin into a skating rink over the weekend, police said Sunday.
Some 480 people suffered bruises or broken limbs as a result of traffic accidents or slipping on icy pavements.
The emergency services were called out 350 times between Saturday evening and Sunday morning when most of the injuries occurred.
Police said there were 115 traffic accidents between 10pm on Saturday and 9am Sunday, causing injuries but no deaths.
Other parts of Germany were also affected by black ice caused by rain falling on roads and freezing.
