Germany condemns Lebanon attack on US embassy vehicle
Jan 15, 2008, 17:34 GMT
Berlin - German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier condemned Tuesday's bomb attack on a US embassy vehicle in Lebanon that left at least three dead.
'The attack showed once more that the domestic crisis in Lebanon needs to be resolved as quickly as possible in order to put an end to the violence,' Steinmeier said in a statement.
The foreign minister urged political forces and Lebanon and the region to work together to elect a new president and form a new government.
Tuesday's blast came amid a political crisis in Lebanon with rival parties deadlocked over a replacement for pro-Syrian president Emile Lahoud, who stood down in late November.
Reports from Damascus said Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al- Muallim would travel to Germany on Thursday to discuss the Lebanese crisis and other issues with Steinmeier.
