Ireland to vote on EU reform treaty in late May or early June
Feb 9, 2008, 18:37 GMT
Dublin - Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern has said the referendum on the EU reform treaty will be held in late May or early June, national broadcaster RTE reported Saturday.
Ahern told RTE that the date will be pinned down once it is decided whether a referendum on children's rights will be held on the same day.
Ireland is the only one of the EU's 27 members which will be holding a referendum on the bloc's latest accord on institutional reform, the so-called Lisbon Treaty.
A recent poll published in the Irish Times newspaper showed that nearly two-thirds of Irish voters are still undecided.
The treaty, if ratified by all member states, will come into effect on January 1, 2009. Five countries have so far ratified it.
