Of course there is little violence. They are separated and heavily policed. Now, if that's what you call free, democratic and independent than everything is peachy, another glowing success of US foreign policy, another 'mission accomplished', but if you care, at all, about reality and the future than God help us.
Yes, no doubt NATO is very pleased that there is no (inter-ethnic)violence. That could be due to Kosovo being almost completely ethnically cleansed of the Serbs and other minorities. The Albanian Muslims are quite content with what's been handed to them by USA and NATO.
There is only violence when the Muslims decide there will be violence. Perhaps the next violence will come when the Albanians in the whole region decide to amalgamate. Stay tuned.
What stupidity falls out of the mouth of a NATO secretary.
During 4 days of Albanian violence that destroyed 3 dozen Serbian churches, burned over 500 Serbian homes and killed 19 innocent Serbs in March, 2004, NATO stood and watch in what was described at the time 'helpless' silence or maybe this was their goal? Get rid of more and more Serbs so that most of the problem will go away? At NO TIme has NATO talked about Serbs having any rights.
NATO's show of power last week at the bridge in Mitrovica was for international public consumption only. They seem only powerful when protecting Muslims. The stoning of a little Serbian girl and another burning of a Serbian home last week in Kosovo is an example of how effective NATO has been at protecting Serbs.
The only reason there has been no 'interethnic violence' is that the majority of Serbs are concentrated in the north. Any attempt to enter their territory will spark renewed bloodshed and the kind of forced exodus of Serbs that we witnessed in August, 1995 when 200,000 Serbs were forced to leave Croatia, led by none other then the biggest war criminals of them all Agim Ceku and Hashim Tachi who has escaped justice for his war crimes. General Wesley Clark was photographed congratulating these thugs and Madeleine Albright is photographed kissing Tachi. The depth of hypocrisy is immoral.
Goon and thugs like Hasim Tachi know full well they cannot afford any violence right now, but given time these Leopards do not change their spots and through murder, intimidation or actual violence they will make the remaining 120,000 Serbs leave Kosovo. The goal here is an ethnically pure Kosovo and onto a 'Greater Albania.' Who does NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer think he is kidding? He and US authorities wanted to build Camp Bondsteel so badly that they will themselves create the necessary amount of violence to make this a possibility and they will instigate enough added violence to maintain their presence in the Balkans.
What these stupid Albanians do not realize is that they got an empty bag in declaring independence. What comes in that sack is a EU administrator that will make all of the decisions about who is going to run the country, the courts and the justice system and when they don't like the person they will fire them and move on to others, just like they have done in Bosnia. Freedom, is a joke, democracy is even funnier as those preaching these principles have not shown any respect for such ideals toward the Serbian people.
Stupid Albanians? I don't think so. Look at whose stupid....Serbia and the losses they've had. What do they have now, nothing. They screwed everything up because they wanted a greater Serbia, for what? They are all sick demented people. What did you think we were going to stay with a country we were basically sold to after WWI and after they tried to exterminate us? Don't think so. The world has it right, Kosova was and always will be Albanian land. And Serbia is trying to convince everyone that it always was their land, WRONG. Have them read a little history. If you want the real history of Kosova go to www.wikipedia.com and search 'History of Kosovo' (I know it's KosovA, but that's how it's catigorized).
The Albanians have literally made a mess of Kosovo since US-NATO's occupation began in 1999 despite so much money pouring in from USA and EU. More money will continue pouring in and the mess will continue into an even bigger mess. The Albanians will want to spread the mess to areas which adjoin Kosovo, and plan to eventually hook up with the mess that is Albania.
Before making comments like that know the facts. Kosova is 100% better since we cut ties with Serbia. People are free, they're opening businesses, building roads, and on and on. Don't tell me it's bad because I have relatives living there and they tell us how things got and are getting better everyday. Someone made a comment about blaming all this on the majority Muslims, don't use that as a way out. I'm a Catholic Albanian and dealt with Muslim Albanians and they are nothing like the radical Muslims that come out of the middle east. If they were radicals, do you really think the US and the EU would help them with anything? No they wouldn't.
I don’t think there will be any violence in Kosovo. There are 16,000 NATO troops and, hopefully, the people on both sides are sick of fighting and suffering.
Serbia and Kosovo should resolve their issues as soon as possible because this status quo will be very hard on the region in economic and all other aspects.

Tony: Well, the same applies to you. You don't know or won't admit the facts. Kosovo(a) is 100% better? People are free? The 'people' you are referring to as being free are the extremist Albanian Muslims, and definitely they're free, i.e. free to destroy churches, free to ethnically cleanse Kosovo(a) of its Christian Serbs and other minorities, free to engage in organized crime, etc. So, you're a Catholic Albanian. Supposedly, then, you are also a Christian. If so, you should be a bit more concerned about the assault on Christianity in the Albanian Muslim dominated Kosovo(a), esp. since the US-NATO takeover. When you next make the trip to Kosovo(a), go to Prizren and check out the burned landscape that used to be Serb homes. You tell us that your Albanian Muslims 'are nothing like the radical Muslims that come out of the middle east'. News flash: They're every bit as 'radical'. They've managed to destroy over 150 Christian holy places, they've managed to terrorize the minorities out of Kosovo, and they've managed to export their expertise in crime (narcotics / slave trade) beyond the borders of Kosovo. Of course the US, especially, is turning a blind eye to their despicable activities, because USA has yet another military base on occupied territory. So, a wink and a nod suffices. And, what about the hundreds of new Islamic mosques dotting the landscape of Kosovo(a), which have been generously funded by Saudi Arabia and Iran. What could it be that those peace-loving, secular Albanian Muslims are up to in all of those many mosques?
I'm not going to deny that there weren't any mistreatment on the Albanian side but the mistreatment on the Serb side were similar to what Hitler did to the Jews. Pregnant women getting their unborn child cut from their stomachs and the empty cavity being filled with gravel. This all done in front of their families and telling them that you will not bare anymore Albanian kids.... That's sickening. What about burning their homes, passports, etc to get rid of their identity. What about gathering all the men and boys killing them and burying them in mass graves. What about all the rapes done in front of families that were made to watch because they knew that their culture wouldn't accept a girl that wasn't a virgin, especially one that lost it to a Serb. The stories I've heard and read about make me sick to my stomach and I know it's wrong but there were times I wished all Serbs were wiped out. How these people could do what they did, not only in Kosova but in Bosnia, Croatia, etc. is beyond me. Maybe they were drugged by their superiors to not have remorse, I can't think of anything else that could make people act that way.

'Mean Spirited', what the heck are you talking about? Are you denying the Serbs did these things to Albanians, Bosnians & Croats? I believe the 'mean spirited' comment should be directed to the Serb people. Look at how your Government can't even decide what the hell they want. Some want to be in the EU, some don't, some want Kosova, some don't. You guys should come out of the 'stone age' and join 'civilization'. Kosova was never the Serbs and never will be. Your so called 'cradle' is in Russia not Kosova. You guys came in way after the Albanians were there. Why don't you look in the history books (the worlds, not the Serbs) and there you will find that the Albanians/Illyrians occupied that area thousands of years before Christ and is one of the oldest language in the world.

I don't see your 'factual historical data'. My data comes from history books I read during high school and college. Why don't you look up 'the history of kosova' in the encyclopedia and you will see yourself. I'm done arguing with an uneducated person. Enjoy whatever is left of your Serbia, because the way it’s going eventually nothing will be left. Then you can move back to Russia, they have a lot of land.
Uh,huh Tony, you couldn't come up with any well-documented and verifiable information to back up what you said. I suppose you can run off at the mouth all you want, but obviously you can't back it up. I'm not from Russia, but I'd hazard a guess that your forefathers were from Albania. And, I'm sure that someone in your family's history came through illegally into Kosovo via that very porous border between Albania and Serbia. You like to beat your chest about being Albanian, but Albanians found life to be better across the border in Serbia - and they stayed, in droves. You, Tony, are the uneducated one - in the extreme.
Why college history books are not good enough factual data for you? Sorry they are not Serbian history books, but I and the rest of the world will be looking at the world history books not Serbias. I gave you my source but you still haven't given yours. I think it's because you have no source, it's what you want it to be.

I guess school history books are no good for you but I understand, you're uneducated and Serbs didn’t write them. But if you want books outside of school, then read Kosova A Short History by Noel Malcolm or you could go online to wikipedia.com and search history of Kosova. Oh and you might be interested in a memorandum presented in Belgrade in 1937 by Dr. Vaso Cubrilovic called, The Expulsion of the Albanians. When you read this you will understand how sick the Serbs were and are and why the Albanians will never again be under Serb rule. I wouldn’t blame you if you feel embarrassed to say you’re a Serb after you read that memo. Now that you got your ‘sources’, educate yourself on the real history.
Tony: If you think Wikipedia and Noel Malcolm are serious sources, or that a proposal from 1937 has anything to do with what is happening today, you are the uneducated bigot here. No, I'm not embarrassed to be of Serb background. I am very proud. Consider yourself fortunate, you dolt, that there was a brilliant Serb inventor named Nikola Tesla. Otherwise, you would be in the dark, literally and figuratively.
What makes your sources anymore serious than mine, especially world history books? If you don't consider a world history book a real source, that would make you the DOLT. The 1937 document has a whole lot to do with what's happening today. Albanians cannot and will not be able to live with Serbs after all they did to us back then and in recent history. That's why the world is backing us with our independence and the Serbs are in The Hague. Oh and as far as Nikola Tesla, there is always a smart one amongst a bunch of idiots.
