I think its right for the mighty Russia to take any action more so military action if the two countries join nato.Russia should take up the challege seriously so as to protect the former SOVIET UNION'S parts using any means possible.Russia is still a superpower and should stop the US from expanding near its borders.This is a sign of aggression by the far west(it's trying to spearhead another coldwar).Russia should be respected as a military and nuclear power.The so called US should bother itself with the rebuilding of IRAQ which they invaded on minor grounds of nuclear weapons yet they themselves have.Why can't they try to invade Russia which possesses the most lethal nuclear weapons on the globe? It is the high time that the RUSSIANS proved their might to the americans who have for the last few years taken the RUSSIANS for granted.The RUSSIANS should adopt the policies of the former SOVIET leader JOSEF STALIN and deal with nato as if dealing with the americans.

Man, as a former Marine, I love this tough talk. Now if only Russia could find an army that could fight it's way out of a paper bag, we'd be on to something. This is the same army that got kicked out of Afghanistan by a bunch of stone age muslims. If memory serves...we rolled up all Afghan resistance (or sent them scurrying like cockroaches to Pakistan) in about 3 weeks. Russia would take a couple of weeks longer.
I must say first Communism is on the right wing side not left wing. But its funny how similar the United States and Russia are. Perhaps the two most similar countries in the world. All countries have there faults but we need to look at how the country is good and take advantage of that. Honestly the US does more threatening than any other country like it is all powerful, please we could collapse it right now if we wanted to. Same goes for Russia, Britain, France, and China. Russia should start worrying about the territory they already have and stop worrying about what their neighbors are doing. Your population is going to be reduced by like 20% over the next 20 years and you will have the one of the smallest population densities in the world controlling the largest swath of land. How are you going to maintain infrastructure across your entire country when you have like 1 person per 10 square miles in all of central russia? You can't survive on selling AKs and anti-air missiles to every revolutionary and terrorist forever.

Putin himself reportedly made coments treatening militarty action, treatening to make steps to brake up Ukraine if they pursue memebership in NATO.
As many Ukrainians, I, knowing some history lessons (totalitarian Russia wiping off milions of Ukrainians in genocide of 1933), knowing current attitudes of Russian leadership towards Ukraine, I would very much prefer to have protection of Ukraine from Russia by the fact of being in NATO.
Ther drive for such move comes from Ukraine not from US somehow needing to expend thru entire Europe.
They got their places to mount radars/antimissle systems in Poland.
I sure hope this treatening rethoric never matherialises.

The reason are prisons are full is because they are mostly full of illegal aliens. This is due that our compassion that our government has had for the underserved and depressed people of the world has failed to secure our boarders and has let crimminal and terrorist elements in. Why so much hostility in this thread? So much 'lets just nuke'em'. What is the purpose of expanding NATO? Why have 'mutual defense' pacts? - would someone forbid us from helping another country (Georgia, Ukraine, etc) if it needed help? I think this world needs less militarism, not more. Expanding NATO, building new bases reduces trust and, ultimately, leads to new wars. What we need is mutual understanding and compassion! And that goes not just for Russia but all countries - Iran, China, Columbia.

It is true that the US does have about 100000 more people with AIDS than Russia but it has about 150000000 more (and the gap is widening) people than Russia, maybe math is not your strong point, but that would mean Russia (number 56 in the world by per capita infections) has far higher infection rate than the USA (way down in 70th place in per capita infections)... You are a moron so I will spell it out for you, that means you are far more likely to have AIDS if you are Russian than if you are American. I have been following with keen interest comments and reports from all over the world in response to the conflict in Georgia which has prompted the Russian to act as they see fit. It looks like the majority of people want EU/NATO and the USA to intervene and some are accusing the Russians of wrong doing!
I would like to contribute to the debate by posing some questions
1)which country in the world has the most number of soldiers and war machinery outside its borders?
2)which country in the world has been involved in more wars on all the continents directly or indirectly.
3)which country in the world preaches about democracy the most and bypasses the United Nations when it wishes to attack other countries for whatever reason whether true or false)?
4)Which country has spends the biggest budget on its army?
5)which country has greatest number of warships/submarines on all the seas and oceans of the world?
6) which country has the greatest hatred towards muslims/arabs?
7)which country has puts its citizens in great danger because it has created many enemies and challenged nearly every goverment under the sun?
8/Which country has spend the biggest defensive system againts terrorism on its homeland yet its still fills unsafe froma attacks?
9)which country has more diplomatic missions in the world than any other country?
10)which country is most likey to cause the third world war over its over zealous military strength?
Now I would like all the military geniuses to answer the simple 10 questions above and be honest and humane enough to tell the world the truth.
If any country gains 6 out of 10 to the above questions that country is very guilty and its current leader should be immediately handed over to the Hague before its too late. This is in the interest of world peace. That country is a great threat to world peace and human kind.
And to all the leaders of the countries that think joining nato is making their people safe, i say think again by joing Nato you are innviting Nukes to be turned against your people and believe me there is no shield for your people when those nukes start coming.
I would be glad if someone could answer the above 10 questions
