May 4, 2008, 15:11 GMT
Sana'a, Yemen - A French engineer will be put on trial in Sana'a this week over attempts to smuggle ancient artifacts from Yemen, prosecution sources said on Sunday.
The 58-year-old Frenchman was arrested at Sana'a International Airport on Thursday after customs officers discovered 31 pieces of antiquities in his luggage as he was departing for Paris, the sources said.
The seized artifacts included eight bronze statuettes, five fake stone statuettes, 15 ancient coins and three stone stamps, they added.
The man was arrested Thursday and prosecutors ordered him be detained for seven days pending investigation. He could face up to five years in jail if the court convicts him of attempting to smuggle ancient artifacts.
He works for a giant gas-exporting project run by the Yemen Liquefied Natural Gas Company in south-eastern Yemen.

That french thief should be sentenced to death for theft of a nation's state properties. Those white bastards should all be shot in the head because they still have the audacity to steal from others.
