Delegates wrangle over final statement at Med Union summit (Extra)
Jul 13, 2008, 16:45 GMT
Paris - Despite French President Nicolas Sarkozy's calls for peace and love, delegates to the founding summit of the Union for the Mediterranean were bickering over the final wording of a joint declaration regarding the Middle East peace process, diplomats said Sunday.
Hours earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert had declared that 'we have never been closer to a (Mideast) peace agreement than we are today.'
Sarkozy, who is hosting the summit, had declared that peace and stability in the Mediterranean region concerned everyone in Europe.
'We are learning to love, rather than hate, each other,' he said.
