Serbian publisher withdraws Jones book after protests by Muslims
Aug 16, 2008, 16:20 GMT
Belgrade - A Belgrade publisher said Saturday it had withdrawn the Serbian translation of the book Jewel of Medina by US writer Sherry Jones following protests by Muslims.
'We did not wish to provoke anyone and we apologize,' the publisher, Beobook, said in a statement.
The book describes the Muslim Prophet Mohammed's relationship with his favourite wife, Aisha.
Serbia's Muslim community had strongly protested the publication of the book when it was announced.
They accused the publisher of desecrating Mohammed and his family.
The Serbian translation was to be the first worldwide following the publication of the book in the US.
US publisher Random House withdrew the book from the US market at the beginning of the month following protests from Muslims.

yes, mr. ramon, i'm sure you would love it if someone published a work of fiction detailing jesus's relationship with mary magdalene, or david's with sarah and haggar. religious history does not need elaboration, especially unfounded and uneccessary elaboration. if someone undertakes to do so anyway, offense should not only be expected but is also justified.
Actually, someone has written a book of fiction alleging a 'relationship' between Jesus and Mary Magdalene. Remember 'The Da Vinci Code?' The book was given lots of publicity and was later made into a movie. Didn't really matter whether Christians liked it or not. And it was Abraham who had the relationship with Sarah and Hagar, not David. I really believe it's not so much respect that causes people to bow down to the demands of militant Muslims. I believe it's fear.
The reason Muslims dont like this book is because it tells about Muhammed's marriage to a child when he was in his 50's and the susequent consuamtion of that marriage when the child was 9 years old. It just tells the truth, and Muslims dont want you to know the truth. It is their own Islamic resources that record this child-marriage, it is not made up.
I'm sure there are no books in Serbia that offend Christians, Jews, Hindus or Buddhists right? They too are banned, right?

It is just amazing how easyly free speach and freedom of expression gets throwened away at any muslim's protest. Keep apeasing them and I hope we all learn to like the sharia law when they impose it on rest of us!
