Polish football federation leadership dismissed
Oct 10, 2008, 14:50 GMT
Warsaw - The Polish football federation's interim leadership was dismissed on Friday, after a recent spur between the federation and FIFA over corruption in the sport.
Poland had faced sanctions from FIFA - including the rights to co-host the Euro 2012 tournament with Ukraine - after the Sports Ministry made a motion to suspend federation officials in an effort to clamp down on corruption.
The Polish Olympic Committee on Friday fired Robert Zawlocki, who'd been appointed as the federation's new chief last week, after a proposal from the Sports Ministry.
The move complied with earlier demands from FIFA, who had not recognized the new leaders and told Poland it would risk Euro 2012 and upcoming World Cup qualifiers unless it reinstated the previous officials.
