Eleven passengers evacuated from ferry after engine-room fire

Helsinki - Eleven passengers were evacuated early Tuesday after a fire broke out in the engine room on a car ferry en route from Finland to Sweden, the marine rescue centre in the Finnish city Turku reported.
None of the passengers or 28-strong crew was injured in the fire on the Sea Wind ferry, a spokeswoman for the Estonia-based group Tallink Silja told Finnish radio.
The ferry, which drifted on the Baltic Sea, was later towed to a sheltered location off the Aland Islands, located in the Baltic Sea between Finland and Sweden.
A Finnish rescue helicopter flew the passengers to Mariehamn on the Aland Islands. Other vessels near the stricken vessel were also alerted, and a Swedish rescue helicopter flew to Mariehamn as backup.
The fire was believed to have caused by a leak in the fuel system.
