France sees another attack on a synagogue
Jan 17, 2009, 15:34 GMT
Paris - A synagogue in France's eastern region of Lorraine was the target of a Molotov cocktail attack early Saturday morning, French radio reported Saturday.
A fire started by the attack was quickly extinguished, while several people who lived above the synagogue were removed from the building as a precautionary measure. An unused explosive was discovered in the vicinity.
Several synagogues have been targeted in France since the beginning of the Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip four weeks ago.
On January 4, a car was driven against the gates of a synagogue in the southern city of Toulouse and set on fire.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy condemned the attacks, saying he would demand strict punishments for the perpetrators, adding that he would not allow international tensions to lead to violence in France.
