Jordan, France set up five nuclear cooperation taskforces
Feb 13, 2009, 5:06 GMT
Amman- Jordan and France have formed five working teams to speed up bilateral cooperation in the sphere of nuclear energy, the official Petra news agency reported Friday.
The step was taken during a meeting of the Joint Higher Jordanian-French Steering Committee that convened in Amman on Thursday under the co-chairmanship of the head of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC) Khalid Toukan and the Director General for Energy and Climate in France Pierre-Franck Chevet.
Toukan said that the panel was formed after the signing of an agreement on nuclear cooperation between Jordan and France last year.
One of the five teams was tasked with the issue of funding a proposed nuclear project in Jordan, including the building of a nuclear power generation plant and the mining of uranium inside the country, Toukan said.
Other teams will be charged with the nuclear fuel, safety management and training Jordanian personnel, he added.
