Mar 7, 2009, 12:28 GMT
Ankara - US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton was in Ankara Saturday for talks with Turkish leaders aimed at improving ties between the two NATO allies that were hurt following the US invasion of Iraq in 2003.
After talks with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Clinton visited the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, founder of the Turkish Republic.
A short statement released by the prime minister's office said Clinton and Erdogan discussed issues covering the situation in Afghanistan and the Middle East, as well as the general issue of terrorism.
Clinton was later scheduled to meet Turkish President Abdullah Gul and Foreign Minister Ali Babacan before returning to Washington Saturday evening.
